You might have several files or media items that you need to convert to a different format, for example from .WAV to .MP3, or to a different bit depth or sample rate. This can be done in one pass. Open REAPER's batch file converter (File, Batch File/Item Converter on the main menu) and follow this sequence:

1. In arrange view, select the items required, then click on Add, then Add selected media items, or Click on Add..., then Add files... : select files and click on Open.

2. To remove a file from the selection, click on its name then on Remove. Clear will clear the entire selection.

3. Right-click over any listed file to open a context menu which includes options to open the input path or output path in Explorer/Finder and to Show input media source properties and/or Show output media source properties.

4. The Presets button allows you to save the current settings as a preset or to recall a previously saved one.

6. Optionally, you may Overwrite original files (if any), and/or Use the source file directory structure.

7. Leave the File name blank for the default name, or enter your own. You can include text and/or any of the wild cards.

8. Leave Sample rate and Channels at source to use the same values as your input files, or select a different value from the drop down list. Make whatever other changes you need - e.g. number of channels, or sample rate. Select a resample mode, and whether to normalize (to LUFS, RMS, Peak or True Peak) or limit (peak or true peak). Note: for channels, as well as the expected standard options (mono, stereo, 4, 6, etc) there is also a multimono option. This will cause each channel to be rendered to a separate file.

9. Preserve Options include whether to preserve if possible start offset and/or metadata. You are also able to Add new metadata.

10. Optionally, you can select Use FX. If you select this option, you should also click on the FX chain... button to specify your required effect(s) - for example, perhaps a limiter. When Use FX is enabled, you may also specify an FX tail length in ms.

11. You can choose to Use all CPU cores or select any number up to the maximum available.

12. Select your required output format (e.g. MP3, OGG, FLAC, AIFF) and any parameters associated with that format - e.g. options for MP3 include specifying CBR, VBR or ABR quality, whether to allow joint stereo, and so on.

13. Regardless of your chosen output format, you have an option to Notify when finished.

15. To convert the files, click on Convert All . A progress bar will be displayed as the files are converted: If for any reason you need to interrupt the conversion progress, click on the Stop button. This will ensure that when next the batch file converter dialog is opened the current settings will be remembered.
